WELCOME
Right now, the world is full of many unknowns, uncertainties and anxieties, and it is easy to feel vulnerable, overwhelmed and afraid. Our sense of safety and trust is being tested, and in a world where we are being asked to practice social distancing and/or home isolation, opportunities for connection and joy may feel limited. It is more important than ever to stay grounded and centered within ourselves, in touch with a sense of gratitude, joy and love, and connected to one another. As humans, we are healthiest when we experience all of these things on a daily basis. These days should be no exception at all. In fact, today we should strive to be the healthiest that we can possibly be.
Physiologically, we must consciously bring our nervous systems out of a constant state of fear. When stuck in a chronic state of fight, flight, or freeze, our bodies and brains are wired to scan for threats and how to out-run and out-live them, over-taxing our adrenals and stealing our energy away from vital bodily organs and functions (like digestion, elimination, and even pleasure), making us more susceptible to illness and just struggling in general. Our heart rates escalate and our bodies are stuck in over-drive; we aren’t able to access the executive functioning of our brains. This can happen when we have powerful, recurring thoughts of a threat, even without the physical presence of a threat in that moment. Our minds are that powerful within our physiology.
Our conscious work in today’s world and in the face of COVID-19 is to slow down and bring our bodies into a state of rest and digest so that we can be as healthy and as calm as possible in the face of enormous stress and challenge. Only from that space can we tune into ourselves, keep ourselves healthy, experience gratitude, joy, and love, and connect with others.
This 8-week online/at-home “retreat” is designed for anyone who would like to practice tools at home for staying grounded within themselves, in touch with a sense of gratitude, joy, and love, and connected to one another during this time. We’ll call this Mindful Mondays but of course practice when it works for you. This is designed to be one full day of programming per week. In between, you have the opportunity to make a daily practice out of what you enjoyed the most from that week’s programming.
