WEEK 6 AFTERNOON PROGRAMMING
Mantra
I am not my thoughts.
I use my attention to choose truth and positivity.
I seek wisdom and guidance in all situations.
PRACTICE: MEDITATION (28M)
Heal & Rewire your Brain with Dr. Joe Dispenza
WATCH: TALK (23M)
This is Water with David Foster Wallace, Pulitzer Prize nominated author and MacArthur Fellow. This is a commencement speech he gave at Kenyon College in 2005.
JOURNAL (~60M)
Consider the following prompts:
What came up for you in listening to the David Foster Wallace talk? The Tara Brach talk?
What are your “default settings” and “limiting beliefs” that play and re-play in your mind? Are you able to discern these thoughts in your mind? Where do they come from? Do you believe that they are true?
Do you feel able to identify in life when you are stuck in your “auto-pilot” mode of repetitive thought patterns? What are some sensory signs to you that you are in this place? What mindfulness tools might help you to come back to the present moment?
David Foster Wallace said: “In the day to day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism … the only choice we get is what to worship.” What do you worship unconsciously? What do you worship consciously? What would you like to worship?
How do you discern truth from fiction inside of yourself? What about in the world today? Do you trust your ability to do this?
Underneath these mental patterns that we’ve spent a lot of time with today, what exists? When you feel into that silence what emerges?
What does your inner wisdom tell you is true? Do you trust this voice inside of yourself? How does it feel to listen to it? How does it differ or compare with the repetitive thought patterns we’ve identified today?
PRACTICE: WALKING (~60M)
Get outside to do a ~60 minute walk or hike. If there are wooded areas or naturally beautiful areas near you that feel safe to access, take advantage of the healing power of nature as well!
